There are more than 500 species of fish and 4 species of sea turtles to be found in the warm turquoise-blue waters of the reef and we’ll be exploring them all with the Dive House. Flamingo Beach, Costa Rica
September 13-20, 2008

Costa Rica does not only offer virgin rainforest, fascinating volcanoes and pristine beaches but also an overwhelming world of undersea wildlife. The marine life is varied and abundant - giant manta rays, sharks, dolphins, puffer fish, angel fish, sea turtles, intricate coral formations, sea fans, and occasionally whales. The diving off Costa Rica's northwest coast is on volcanic rock pinnacles at 40-90 foot depths. A typical dive can start at about 40 feet, gradually going deeper around the pinnacle, then back along the inland side of the pinnacle, and visibility ranges from 30-120 feet. The dive normally has colorful angelfish, puffer fish, jewel and pacific moray eels as well as several different types of parrotfish and occasional sea turtles. There can be huge schools of jacks, grunts, mackerel or spadefish at about 50-60 feet and you might be lucky to also see most manta rays, bat rays, eagle rays, and white-tipped sharks. Occasionally, bull and tiger sharks will visit the Bat and Catalina islands. Bill Beard’s Adventure tour will show you the underwater and topside as well with white water rafting, zip line canopy tour, and horseback riding. The hotel is located in Playa Flamingo (Flamingo Beach) in the northwest province of Guanacaste. Flamingo Marina Resort is perched on top of a lush hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Catalina Islands and the world famous scuba diving sites that are just 15 minutes.

Several large wrecks have also been recently sunk and now wait to be explored. We’ll be staying with Fantasy Island Resort.
